  • India Ordered 250,000 OLPC XO Laptops

    Finally, India has placed an order for XO laptops from One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) non-profit organization. Two government organizations along with a private organization ordered for 250,000 OLPC XO laptops for the school children in the country. Most of the laptops will be distributed among the suburban and rural school children and the laptops will be connected to a server through mesh network and its users can download information from the server. OLPC India will start to distribute the laptops from June and OLPC is targeting to bring 3 million XO laptops in India this year.

    OLPC is a non-profit organization which is aimed at providing a laptop to each and every school children by 2020. Its core objective is to come up with a $100 laptop for the developing world. OLPC emerged in 2006, but this is the first India has shown interest to OLPC and is now going to buy OLPC laptop for the school children. The number of XO laptops India has ordered for is not big enough for a large country like India where the education sector is also very big. However, placing an order for 250,000 laptops is now considered to be a stepping stone of bringing more OLPC laptops in future.
